SVM - Heating and Cooling

For over 65 years Metrima has been supplying a wide range of solutions for metering of heating and cooling. Our SVM products are used in district heating and cooling systems, homeowners' association and to document the efficiency of boiler rooms, heat pumps and solar energy systems.

All our meters can measure a number of parameters covering consumption and mains quality. They can readily be supplemented by a wide range of options boards for different types of communication system, tariffs and max/min values as well as for analogue inputs and outputs and relay outputs. In order to meet future requirements, options boards are continually being developed with different additional functions. Our offering includes products such as calculators, temperature sensors, inductive, ultrasonic and mechanical flow sensors, together with communication systems and their associated peripherals. We also offer testing systems for calculators and temperature sensors.
Metrima's system solution, MCom, for automatic meter data collection and process optimization provides cost and energy savings and reliable operation. The system has been operative and continously developed over a ten-year period in collaboration with leading district heating companies. The system is open, flexible, user friendly and reliable. We recently launched release 4 of MCom 3, the latest version with increased functionality in respect of alarm, graphical interface, user friendliness, data management and communication.

Calculators

Using a pair of temperature sensors (and an electronic measurement circuit built into the calculator) the temperature difference (heat content consumed) is measured. In the calculator the temperature difference is measured and the volume is measured by the flow sensor. The measurement signals are processed in the calculator. The quantity of thermal energy is calculated from the measured values for temperature difference and the flow together with a correction factor. The correction factor is commonly known as the K factor and is expressed in kWh/(m3 x ¢XC), i.e, the number of kWh per m3 and degree Celsius.

Meter Reading based on M-bus

M-Bus is a European standard for remote reading of heat meters and can also be used for communication with all other types of consumption meter as well as sensors and control devices. With its standard as a galvanically isolated interface for remote reading, M-Bus is winning growing regard and application within the energy industry in Europe and other parts of the world. It is being used more and more often for electricity meters.

Meters and sensors without M-Bus outputs are connected via an adapter. In principle, MCom 3 supports all types of medium for data communication, i.e. cable, telephone, ISDN, GSM, fibre-optic cable and TCP/IP networks. The system can also use radio or electrical mains communication for "last-mile communication", i.e. the last leg to the meter. In such cases, M-Bus is also used as the basis and communication is handled transparently using M-Bus from the meter the whole way to the central system.
